Stopped in for lunch (1:30). Empty. Should have taken the clue. Even as cheap Mexican goes, not good. Chimichanga resembled a hot pocket and tasted about the same.

I Heart Simon! Let me tell you why. My bestie and I get together every so often and have a lunch or dinner. It is a tradition for us that used to be once a year (although I see her often) and turned into a whenever we feel like it. A friend of hers told her about El Dorado. After one visit we fired our old restaurant of choice and now we eat here every time. We drove pass this unsuspecting restaurant the first time. It is a very quaint little white building with a private parking lot and you can enter through the front or back door near their kitchen. We've done it both ways. When we pulled up, this time for a late lunch, the parking lot and the restaurant were all ours. At first I thought that was strange. We were greeted graciously at the door and seated. Immediately we received water and menus from Simon. Who I later found out is an important member of the El Dorado family. Right off the break he treated us like regulars. I love being made comfortable and making new friends at a restaurant. Walking into a place and being greeted like Norm (on Cheers for the yougins) is on my bucket list. Anywho, we took our time perusing the menu and decided on Margaritas, Ceviche Mixto, and a both of us had Camarones Bruchette. FYI: have a designated driver if you want to partake in the consumption of a half picture of Margaritas at El Dorados. Listen, the food is so succulent. Its delectable, its divine. Now I am a lover of international food and Mexican is only second to Italian but El Dorados could make me change my mind. Simon took our drunk jokes very lightly (because you're always funnier when your drunk) and kept us feeling comfortable and by the time we were finished the restaurant had several other patrons. Still Simon made us feel like we were the only ones there. This will be your new favorite Mexcan/Spanish restaurant in the area. Moderately priced mega-delicious food and awesome Margaritas. Win Win.

Best Mexican food in La Plata... Plus they have Spanish food too! I have had both Mexican and Spanish dishes from this place and all were delicious. Very friendly service too. Its a shame this place doesn't get the business the other Mexican restaurant in La Plata gets, because El Dorado's food is far more superior. If you want good Mexican or Spanish food in La Plata this is the place!

Won't be going back here again. The chips weren't fresh, the salsa tasted like spicy pasta sauce and the menu was lacking. Over priced and horrible rude service. Also no children's menu and won't do half portions for child. Ridiculous!

All I can say is delicious on all levels. Loved the corn cake. Seafood fresh and prepared perfectly. Highly recommend.

Food was delicious but very difficult to eat gluten free due to the language barrier. It took a long time to determine what I could or could not eat.

They have the best margarita's in town. Staff is very pleasant. You have to go on Sunday for there brunch. I was told about it and finally went. I was not disappointed. Building might be a little run down but it is convenient and no waiting.

Want a nice quite place to eat that serves excellent Tex-Mex food, well here it is. El Dorado is a great place to take the family to enjoy a very different kind of menu. Prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Service is fast and friendly and the food comes out hot. As you walk in the front door don't forget to check out the daily specials, some are out of this world. It's is a little hard to get out of on to RT. 6 from the back parking lot but just be patient, it was worth the trip in. Here is a fine little restaurant that you have to look for, because if you blink you just missed it as you drive by.

a very nice quiet place. Friendly staff, quick too. Some of the best fajitas around. Much better than La Tolteca in Lp. but a little more on the wallet. Hardly ever too busy to walk in and sit down. We go back often.

I come from California, where Mexican restaurants abound. After moving to Maryland, I was very disappointed in the so-called "Tex-Mex" offerings on the East Coast. By and large, the "Tex-Mex" restaurants are basically food that your mom might make on Wednesday nights if you grew up in Ohio; uninspired, salty, cheesy, bland. Boring casseroles. Practically no use of spices, and absolutely no heat. Instead of chunks of shredded beef, you're more likely to get flavorless ground beef. Want something like a nice white pozole soup? Fat chance. Enter Eldorado Restaurant, in La Plata, MD. This place is outstanding, considering its location in the land of crab shacks and cheap liquor stores. They serve a very big menu, split between Mexican (or "Tex-Mex" if "Mexican" just sounds too ethnic for you) and Spanish. We had mussels for an appetizer, a little salty, but overall very good. Then the entrees came and I was blown away with the quality and sophisticated construction of flavors. If you live in Charles County, you owe it to yourself to try this place out. Easily the best Mexican-Spanish restaurant I've eaten at in the Washington Metro region.

Everything was delicious! The service was fast and friendly! The front sign wasn't lit and we missed it the first time by. This is well worth finding and we'll definitely be back!!!

Though the restaurant labels it's self as a Spanish restaurant, it clearly serves Tex-Mex. This is only an issue if you came for nothing but Spanish food, as you soon get over the fact that the food is outstanding. The restaurant is small and is better suited for small groups or a nice place to bring your significant other. The tabels are clean and the staff is quick, friendly and very helpful. Though it's no longer on the menu, I highly recommend the Carne Assada with either a Corona, Dos Exis, or a drink from the bar. Finish your meal with a good cup of coffe and Tres Leche cake or Flan. The only gripe is the parking in back, as they share with a bank. If parking is an issue, simply park nearby in La Plata and take the two minute walk. You won't be dissapointed!

This place is truly a hidden gem- emphasis on hidden, because lets face it- the location leaves much to be desired. Located directly off the main street in Old Towne La Plata, getting to it can be a bit of a hassle and parking is often times problematic. But it truly is worth the work to get there. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food is absolutely delicious! Though they call themselves a Spanish resturaunt, it's pretty obvious that thir food is more along the lines of "tex-mex". However it's served piping hot in filling portions. I would reccomend the corn cake and friend plantains, as well as the seafood ceaser salad. And their tres-leches cake? TO DIE FOR. Sometimes I stop in just for that! To be honest the menu is just a little pricy, but it's a definative pick for my husband and myself, when we want a break from the regular chain and fastfood joints. If you're in La Plata, stop in!

Arrived at the restaurant at 8:40 and was denied service because the restaurant closes at 9! Poor customer service!

I admit to being a bit skeptical when we first approached. There was only one family in the restaurant and it was really quiet. I'm glad we stayed and tried it out. The guacamole, chips and salsa were very good. Not too salty or heavy with onions. The vegetable fajitas looked and tasted amazing. We also tried the nachos, combo fajitas and quesadillas. Everybody in our party left satisfied. The service was outstanding and even as the crowd picked up the servers were attentive and kept things moving.

I was up in this area today and figured I'd dial up some Mexican using Yelp, and favorable reviews led me here. I ordered a frozen margarita...which was very good. It's nice to see a place that can make a decent one, doesn't always happen. Chips and salsa were good! The chicken fajitas quality was very good with no complaints. Served with sour cream, diced tomato and guacamole on the side and a separate plate of rice and beans. The beans were whole, good...but I'm used to refried. Flavor was good, maybe this is a traditional approach I don't know. All in all I had a great dining experience here, and most likely will return when I'm in the area. Wait staff are friendly and efficient, the place inside is well kept, table cloths in dining area. Check it out!

We found this place by accident. Wow we were pleasantly surprised. Delicious cream of crab soup and seafood soup. Great salsa. We asked for the spicy salsa and it did not disappoint. Sunday brunch was off the hook. Great service. Very clean and quiet and nice. We will be returning again and again for sure.

I really enjoy eating at this place. I live in La Plata, where everything Waldorf has we have as well. So there aren't many restaurant options. Anyways, I usually end up here for dinner. Yes it seems empty from the outside, but the interior is very nice and the staff are very nice. I have eaten here around 3 times and they were all a 5 star experience. I usually stick to the steak and shrimp plate. The steak comes out tender and seasoned well. The shrimp has always been yummy. My hubby usually gets tacos or enchiladas and he enjoys both choices, my mother in law loves the salmon. I know some ppl that say it's too much money compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area, but it's worth it, the food is fresh here, the restaurant itself has a better presentation and vibe.

After reading reviews, I decided to try it out. I wasn't disappointed. The building may seem old, but don't let it fool you. They have a half Mexican and half Spanish menu. I had the paella, the other people with me had the fajita, and the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp. Everything tasted great! The salsa they brought was mild, so I asked for a spicy salsa, and boy did they bring it. Tears comin out after a bite. The only thing I didn't like were the chips, they really need to make some better ones. They are pretty thick. The sangria was good. Not the best, but I will order it again. They do not have draft beer, only bottles. Over all, best Mexican/Spanish I've had in the area. Can't wait to go back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
